Mt. St. Vincent triumphs twice in Skyline Tri-Match at Sage

Troy, NY----The Sage Colleges men's volleyball team hosted a Skyline Conference Tri-Match with league foes, the College of Mt. Saint Vincent and NYU-Poly. Mt. St. Vincent collected two wins to improve to 7-5 overall and 5-0 in the league, while NYU-Poly went 1-1 to move to 1-6 overall and 1-2 in the conference. The Gators of Sage went 0-2 and are now 2-8 overall and 1-4 in the league.
MATCH ONE
Mt. Saint Vincent 3-0 Sage (30-19, 30-20, 30-19)
Leading the Dolphins in the match was junior David Guerrero (East Meadow, NY/East Meadow) as the outside hitter had 14 kills with six digs, while senior middle hitter Rob Hockenjos (West Hempstead, NY/West Hempstead) added 11 kills with nine digs and six total blocks.
For the Gators, rookie Kyle Ray (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) had seven kills with 13 digs. Freshman middle hitter Jed Kubisch (Delmar, NY/Bethlehem) had two kills with five digs.
MATCH TWO
Mt. Saint Vincent 3-0 NYU-Poly (32-30, 30-16, 30-26)
Guerrero wrapped a busy day by adding 20 kills in the second match to lead his team to another conference win. He added 13 digs as well with three blocks. Sophomore Matt Krauszer (Lindenhurst, NY/Lindenhurst) added nine kills with six digs and five total blocks.
NYU-Poly's junior outside hitter James Lukban (Bronx, NY/Cardinal Spellman) had 11 kills with 10 digs. Joe Gabor had 20 digs for the Fighting Blue Jays.
MATCH THREE
NYU-Poly 3-1 Sage (30-26, 30-24, 28-30, 30-28)
Lukban added 19 kills in the match with 12 digs, while Gabor added another 20 dig performance for NYU-Poly with 12 kills. Senior Tom Poppenberg (Springville, NY/Springville GI) added 22 digs for the Blue Jays as well in the tight match that was by a total of just 10 points in four sets.
Sage's leader in the match was Ray with 23 kills and 15 digs, while Kubisch added 22 digs with 19 kills and a pair of solo blocks. Sage's freshman co-captain Anthony Gerace (East Greenbush, NY/Columbia) racked up 39 assists with four kills and six digs.
