No. 6 ranked Carthage tops Sage, 3-0
Sage's men's volleyball team hosted the sixth ranked Red Men of Carthage on Monday night.
Albany, NY----The Sage Colleges men's volleyball team
hosted Carthage College on Monday night in the Kahl Campus Center
in a non-conference match. Carthage College, which is ranked No. 6
in the AVCA Division III men's poll, improves to 7-4 overall and is
riding a five-match win streak with the victory over Sage. Sage
drops to 1-5 on the year.
Carthage won the first and second sets by a score of 30-9 and captured the decisive set with a 30-11 score.
Carthage's junior Matt Wallace (Plainfield, IL/Naperville-Neuqua Valley) added nine kills in the match, while freshman Chris Falknor (Arlington Heights, IL/Buffalo Grove) added seven kills with five digs. Sophomore Matt Yanz (Bolingbrook, IL/Naperville-Central) added five digs for the Red Men, while junior Mike Greffy (Grayslake, IL/Mundelein-Camel Catholic) added 23 assists.
Sage's freshman Kyle Ray (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) had five kills with a dig, while freshman middle hitter Jed Kubisch (Delmar, NY/Bethlehem) had five kills. Rookie Anthony Gerace (East Greenbush, NY/Columbia) added 11 setting assists for the Gators in the match.
The Gators will return to action on Thursday, February 4 hosting Purchase College in a Skyline Conference match in the Kahl Campus Center at 7 p.m., while Carthage College will compete on February 6 and 7 at Fontbonne University in a cross over tournament.
