Sage falls in Skyline Conference Semifinals
The Gators fell to Mt. St. Vincent in the team's first post-season appearance.
Riverdale, NY----A first-year varsity program, the Gators of the Sage College’s earned a spot in the 2010 Skyline Conference Men’s Volleyball Championship. Sage earned the No. 4 seed and opened play on Sunday facing the top-seeded Dolphins of the College of Mt. Saint Vincent. Mt. Saint Vincent, the defending league champions, defeated Sage 3-0 in the semifinals.
Mt. St. Vincent improves to 14-12 and will advance to the championship match to face the winner of the other final match between # 3 Yeshiva and # 2 Bard. Sage drops to 5-19 on the year.
Rookie middle hitter Jed Kubisch (Delmar, NY/Bethlehem) added eight kills with eight digs for the Gators. Freshman Kyle Ray (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) racked up seven kills with 12 digs, while rookie Ryan Couch (Nyskayuna, NY/Colonie) added eight kills and five digs with a pair of blocking assists. Rookie setter Anthony Gerace (East Greenbush, NY/Columbia) added 22 setting assists for the Gators in the match with six digs, and two kills.
MSV’s junior David Guerrero (East Meadow, NY/East Meadow) added 18 kills with 14 digs, while senior Rob Hockenjos (West Hempstead, NY/West Hempstead) added 16 kills with eight digs. Junior setter Michael Quinn (Wantage, NY/Wantage) racked up 44 setting assists with seven digs.
Sage will wrap their first varsity season on Tuesday, March 23 hosting the Wildcats of SUNY-IT in the Kahl Center at 7 p.m.
