Sage falls twice at weather shortened Bard Invite
SAGE'S WIN STREAK ENDS WITH A PAIR OF SETBACKS AT BARD INVITATIONAL
Annandale on Hudson, NY----The Sage Colleges men's volleyball team travelled to Bard College on Friday for what was supposed to be a six-team team-day invitational. Unfortunately, the winter weather had altered the Raptors' tournament schedule and list of competitors.
Instead of the original list of opponents, Sage took to the course on Friday facing Mount Ida College and Bard with a scheduled match for Saturday on the horizon. Sage fell in four sets (3-1) to Mount Ida, before dropping a 3-0 decision to Bard. The losses snap the Gators' three-match win streak and puts Sage at 5-12 on the year.
Late in the evening, the hosts also got word that Brooklyn College's, the next opponent scheduled to face Sage on Saturday was unable to depart their campus and would not be attending the event, hence the Gators were complete for the event and headed home.
Match One Scores (Mount Ida 3-1 Sage: 30-22, 38-36, 22-30, 30-22)
Match Two Scores (Bard 3-0 Sage: 30-18, 30-27, 30-16)
Against Mount Ida College, Sage's rookie Anthony Gerace (East Greenbush, NY/Columbia) added 34 setting assists for the Gators in the match with 14 digs and a pair of blocks. Rookie middle hitter Jed Kubisch (Delmar, NY/Bethlehem) added 15 kills with 18 digs.
In the contest with Bard, the Gators were once again led by Gerace as he had 22 setting assists with a pair of blocks. Kubisch added 11 kills with nine digs, while freshman Kyle Ray (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) racked up 11 kills with 11 digs.
The Gators will return to action on Tuesday, March 2 for a road NECVA contest at Ramapo College and return to Bard two days later for a Skyline Conference match with the Raptors at 7 p.m. on March 4.
