Gators open action at SUNY-IT Tournament.
Sage took to the court three times on Saturday in the forst day of competition at the tournament.
Utica, NY----The Sage Colleges men's volleyball team competed on Saturday in the two-day SUNY-IT Invitational. Sage opened action against Stevenson University and then faced Lasell College.
Against Stevenson, Sage fell 30-14, 30-22, 30-26 to improve to 5-0 on the season. Next the Gators faced Lasell and fell 30-13, 30-16, and 30-17, putting Sage at 0-3, while the Lasers improved to 2-2. Sage faced CCNY in the final match of the day and dropped a 3-1 decision to put the Beavers at 1-3 and Sage at 0-4.
Against Stevenson, Sage's freshman co-captain Anthony Gerace (East Greenbush, NY/Columbia) racked up 13 assists with six digs. Sage's other co-captain, rookie Kyle Ray (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) added 12 kills with six digs. Freshman middle hitter Jed Kubisch (Delmar, NY/Bethlehem) had 11digs in the match for the Gators.
Against Lasell, Sage Gerace had 13 assists with three digs. Ray added six kills with six digs, while Kubisch had five kills with eight digs.
Against CCNY, Sage captured the third set to forced a fourth set as they had a tight match. Gerace added 31 assists in the contest with two aces, while Kubisch added 20 kills with two solo blocks and two assisted blocks. Ray added 14 kills with 12 digs for the Gators.
The Gators will return to action on Sunday, January 31 at the SUNY-IT Tournament taking on Regis College at 3:30 p.m.
