Gators honor Carciobolo on Senior Day; Vallee breaks single-season 3 record in loss
Albany, NY – The Sage Colleges' women's basketball team hosted the Rams of Farmingdale State College on Saturday afternoon in the Kahl Center in a Skyline Conference contest. FSC posted a 68-46 win to improve to 13-7 overall and 12-1 in the conference, which puts them atop the league's standings heading into the final week of the regular-season. Sage drops to 8-15 overall and 4-9 in the league.
Prior to the contest, Sage honored 2011-2012 senior, Sarah Carciobolo (Niskayuna, NY/South Colonie) in conjunction with Senior Day.
FSC's junior guard Baytania Newman (Brooklyn, NY/South Shore) netted a double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds. She added six assists with four steals to pace the team as they held a 33-17 lead at the break. Rookie guard Christina Merrill (Levittown, NY/Island Trees) added 11 points, while junior guard Jeanette Zubizarreta (Bay Shore, NY/Calhoun) added 10 points.
Carciobolo led the Gators in the contest as she had 11 points. The team's top scorer this season, she has 231 points this season with 1,111 career points. With one regular-season game remaining on the Gators' schedule she is on target to become the all-time career free throw leader at Sage. She sports an 82.5% career FT mark (118-143), including an 83.9% average this season and ranks 40th in Division III having converted 78-of-93 free throws this year.
Junior guard Carly Vallee (East Greenbush, NY/Catholic Central) tallied nine points and added two more three-pointers in the action. Vallee holds the all-time three-point mark and now has 109 on her career and with her efforts on Saturday broke the school's single-season three point record as well. She has 55 threes on the season and bettered the record of 53 three-pointers set by Jamie Desso (2003-2004).
Rookie forward Amie Jefferson (Albany, NY/Colonie Central) finished with eight points and six rebounds with a block. She continues to add to her active single-season block record as she has 42 blocks.
Sage returns to action on February 15 for a 7 p.m. road Skyline Conference contest at the College of Mt. St. Vincent.
