Carciobolo's career-high 22 points pace Gators to key win
Albany, NY--- The Sage Colleges' women's basketball team posted a 73-42win over NYU-Poly on Thursday evening in the Kahl Center. Sage's senior Sarah Carciobolo (Niskayuna, NY/South Colonie) poured in a game and career-high 22 points to lift Sage to the conference win. The Gators improve to 6-7 overall and 2-3 in the league, while NYU-Poly drops to 6-6 overall and 2-2 in the conference.
Sage held a commanding 35-15 lead at the break as Carciobolo had 13 points off the bench, including three treys. She finished with 22 points to better her career-high of 22 from last season. She hit four-of-five from three-point range and was 8-12 from the floor. NYU-Poly's senior forward Margaux Pickell (Howell, NJ/Howell) had eight points and eight boards in the first half for the Fighting Blue Jays, while they were held to a 14.3% shooting performance in the first half. She finished with a double-double as she had 18 points and 15 rebounds, while junior guard Shelby Bruns (Elko, NV/Elko) had a double-double with 17 points and 11 boards. On the night, NYU-Poly held a 46-43 edge on the boards, but committed 21 turnovers and was held to a 20.3% effort from the floor (13-64) and did not connect on a single three-point basket.
Sage's junior Carly Vallee (East Greenbush, NY/Catholic Central) added 12 points for the Gators as she tallied a pair of three-point baskets and now has a team-best 28 three's this season. She has 82 career three-points, which stands fifth best in Gator history.
Junior Laurel Jicha (Hannibal, NY/Hannibal) connected on a career-best 10 points with seven rebounds in the night. Freshman guard Megan Bowman (Saranac, NY/Saranac) tallied six points with six assists and a pair of steals as Sage was once again perfect from the free-throw line with its 10-10 effort.
Sage returns to action in Skyline Conference play as they will travel to Farmingdale State on January 14 for a 1 p.m. Skyline Conference game.
