Vallee's record setting performance not enough as Gator fall to MSMC
Troy, NY – The Sage Colleges' women's basketball team hosted the Knights of Mt. St. Mary College on Wednesday evening in the Neff Center. The Skyline Conference contest went to the Knights with a 78-43 win over Sage, putting MSMC at 17-3 overall and 8-1 in the league. Sage drops to 8-12 overall and 4-6 in the Skyline Conference.
Junior guard Carly Vallee (East Greenbush, NY/Catholic Central) added one three-point baskets on the evening and became the Gators' all-time career three-point leader in the process. She entered the night tied with Kelly Murphy (103, 1999-2002) and now has 104 career three-pointers. Vallee also has a personal-best 50 three-pointers on the campaign, putting her just three behind the single-season record set in 2003-2004 by Jamie Desso (53).
Sage's senior guard Sarah Carciobolo (Niskayuna, NY/South Colonie) finished with 15 points as she was 5-6 from the line and helped the Gators convert 10-of-12 from the line in the contest.
MSMC's senior guard Jen Mocanu (Belford, NJ/Middletown North) and junior guard Becky Metzger (Point Pleasant, NJ/Point Pleasant Boro) each finished with 16 points to pace the Knights. Senior Amanda Horvers (Kingston, NY/Kingston) added 13 points, while junior forward Kate Harnett (Floral Park, NY/Floral Park Memorial) hauled down 10 rebounds.
MSMC held a 32-19 lead, but the Gators made it tight in the opening moments of the second half as they pulled within seven points, down 37-30 (15:02). The Knights pulled away with hey three-point baskets from Horvers and jumpers by Mocanu.
Sage's sophomore forward Chelsea Martin (Davenport, NY/Jefferson Central) added seven points with nine rebounds and two steals for the Gators.
Sage returns to action in a road Skyline Conference contest on February 4 at St. Joseph's College at 3 p.m., while Mt. St. Mary College will host league foe, SUNY-Old Westbury on February 4 at 2 p.m.
