Carciobolo's 23 points not enough as Sage falls at MCLA
Adams, MA – The Sage Colleges' women's basketball team traveled to the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts on Saturday afternoon for a non-conference contest. The host Trailblazers triumphed 80-57 to improve to 10-9 overall and the Gators drop to 8-11.
Sage's senior guard Sarah Carciobolo (Niskayuna, NY/South Colonie) finished with a career-best 23 points. She was 9-16 from the floor. She was the only Gator to reach double figures in the contest. Carciobolo now has 1,067 career points on her career, including 371 as a Gator.
Junior guard Carly Vallee (East Greenbush, NY/Catholic Central) added two three-point baskets on the afternoon and finished with six points. The Gators' leading scorer this season, she tied the career record for most three-pointers in the game as she now has 103. She stands tied for the career record with Kelly Murphy (103, 1999-2002). Vallee now has a personal-best 49 three-pointers on the campaign, putting her just four behind the single-season record set in 2003-2004 by Jamie Desso (53).
Rookie Megan Bowman (Saranac, NY/Saranac) added eight points, while junior forward Chelsea Martin (Davenport, NY/Jefferson Central) added four points with four blocked shots and a personal-best seven steals. Martin stands tied for the No. 6 spot (33) on the career blocked shot list with two others, including current teammate rookie Amie Jefferson (Albany, NY/Colonie Central), who had a team-leading five rebounds on Saturday.
Eleven Trailblazers broke into the score column, led by Alie Dobrovolc's game-high 26 points. MCLA led throughout the entire contest eventually moving out to a 43-33 halftime lead. For the Trailblazers, Jen Wehner had nine points in the spurt to open the second half, while Dobrovolc added six. Sage would get no closer than 19 the rest of the way. Dobrovolc was 11-20 from the floor. She completed the double-double by adding 12 boards. Lucy Tremblay was also productive chipping in with 16 points and 6 steals. She connected on 3-7 shots from beyond the arc. Wehner collected 13 points.
Sage returns to action in a home Skyline Conference contest on February 1 hosting Mt. St. Mary College in the Neff Center. First tip is set for 7 p.m.
