Carciobolo adds 1000th point as Vallee connects for 19 in Sage win
Troy, NY – The Sage Colleges' women's basketball team hosted the Dolphins of the College of Mt. St. Vincent in the Neff Center on Thursday evening. In a hard-fought contest, the Gators tallied a 65-61 win to improve to 7-9 overall and 3-4 in the league. CMSV drops to 4-10 overall and 1-6 in the league.
Sage's senior guard Sarah Carciobolo (Niskayuna, NY/South Colonie) finished with 10 points and scored her 1,000th career point early in the first half as she hit a three-pointer and spurred the Gators to a 7-0 lead. Carciobolo, who played two seasons at Hudson Valley Community College and now has 1,007 career points.
For the Gators, junior guard Carly Vallee (East Greenbush, NY/Catholic Central) tied her career-best effort as she had 19 points and was 5-9 from three-point range. Vallee leads the squad with her 39 three's this year, while elevating her career total to 93, which is fourth all-time on the career list and just 10 off the record set by Kelly Murphy (1999-2002).
Also recording a double-double for Sage was sophomore forward Chelsea Martin (Davenport, NY/Jefferson Central) as she had 13 points and 12 rebounds. Overall on the night, Sage was 10-19 from three-point range (52.6) after making 6-of-10 in the first half as Sage held a 29-21 lead at the intermission.
Rookie guard Nicole Lanteri (Poughkeepsie, NY/Arlington) added 12 points with three assists and two steals for the Gators, while rookie center Amie Jefferson (Albany, NY/Colonie Central) had a personal-best seven blocks.
CMSV's senior forward Kara McNish (Hawthorne, NJ/Hawthorne) had a double-double with her 10 points and game-high 17 rebounds. She hauled down 10 rebounds in the second half and helped the Dolphins pull within two points (61-59) with her offensive rebound and layup at :35.
Sophomore guard Desiree Rosa (Dumont, NJ/Dumont) added 11 points with six boards, while sophomore guard Sarah Kluth (Lynbrook, NY/St. Mary's) added 10 points and was 8-8 from the line. CMSV held an edge on the boards with a 56-35 margin, but Sage held the visiting Dolphins to a 26.8% FG (19-71).
Sage returns to action in a home Skyline Conference game on January 21 as they host SUNY-Old Westbury in a Skyline Conference doubleheader in the Neff Center (Troy, NY) as the women's contest is at 1 and the men's game follows at 3 p.m. The Dolphins of the College of Mt. St. Vincent is next in action on January 23 hosting Rowan University at 7 p.m. in a non-conference contest.
