Jefferson sets single-season blocks record, but Gators drop game at SJC
Patochgue, NY – The Sage Colleges' women's basketball team travelled to St. Joseph's College for a Skyline Conference contest on Saturday afternoon. The host Golden Eagles came from behind and tallied a 62-54 win to improve to 11-8 overall and 6-5 in the conference. Sage falls to 8-13 overall and 4-7 in the Skyline Conference.
The Gators held a 33-26 lead at the intermission and were paced by the efforts sophomore forward Chelsea Martin (Davenport, NY/Jefferson Central) as she had 12 of her 14 points in the first stanza. A late game rally by SJC saw the game shift at the midway point of the second half as the Golden Eagles took a 42-41 lead with 11:21 left to play.
Sage's senior guard Sarah Carciobolo (Niskayuna, NY/South Colonie) finished with 13 points as she was 4-4 from the line and helped the Gators convert 11-of-12 from the line in the contest. Rookie forward Amie Jefferson (Albany, NY/Colonie Central) added eight points with a team-best nine rebounds in the start for the Gators. She added a pair of blocked shots in the action and leads the squad with her 37 blocked shots on the year, a new standard for Sage for blocked shots in a season. She surpassed the record set in 2000-2001 by Kelly Murphy with 35 blocks.
SJC's Amdan Bender finished with a double-double on 18 points with 10 rebounds, while Nicole Redding also had a double-double on 14 points and 12 caroms.
Sage returns to action in a road Skyline Conference contest on February 7 at NYU-Poly with a 6 p.m. tip.
