Ithaca, NY- Sage's men's soccer team travelled to face Ithaca College in a non-conference match on Wednesday afternoon. The Gators lost the match to the Bombers 4-1, but were boosted by the play of junior forward River Seybolt (Selden, NY/Longwood) as he became the program's all-time leading goal scorer in the contest. Sage is now 7-5-2 overall, while Ithaca is 7-5-2 with the win.
Seybolt put in the Gators' first goal of the match at 33:54 to pull the team within one just before the half on a pass from senior Heriberto Gomez (Columbiaville, NY/Ichabod Crane).
Seybolt leads Sage with his 12 goals this fall, and has elevated his career resume to include 36 goals. He entered the match tied for the all-time goals mark with Scott Jarosz (2010-2013, 35 goals) as the program's all-time goal leader. After a pair of scoreless ties last week, Seybolt connected for the record-breaking goal on Wednesday. Next up for the junior is the all-time Sage career point mark, which currently stands at 82 points and is held by Gustavo Trinidad (2011-2014) on 25 goals and 32 assists. Seybolt has 81 points on 36 goals with nine assist, including a program-best 12 career game-winning goals.
In the final minutes of the match, Sage's sophomore Jonathan Ortega (White Plains, NY/White Plains) was awarded a penalty kink at 88:50, but Ithaca's keeper Dan Hinckley made the save and finished with four saves on the day. Sage's junior keeper Michael Chiaravalloti's (Torrington, CT/Oliver Wolcott) picked up six saves in the match.
Next up for the Gators, they will make the trip to Alfred University for a 5 p.m. Empire 8 match on Saturday, October 21 as they make a push for a spot in the Empire 8 tournament.
