Alfred, NY—The Sage Colleges' men's basketball team travelled to Alfred University for an Empire 8 match-up with the Saxons on Friday night. Alfred collected the 89-81 win over Sage to improve to 12-4 overall and 5-2 in the league. Sage drops to 6-8 overall with a 1-4 record in the conference.
Alfred took a 41-39 lead into the locker room and despite a number of strong efforts, Sage dropped the game on the road. Sage's senior guard Jordan Devaughn (Jacksonville, FL/Flora McDonald Academy) led all players with 25 points and made 10-of-20 shots from the floor. He finished with three baskets from the perimeter and handed out four assists with six steals. He added 14 points in the second half of play.
Sophomore guard Isaiah Scurry (Albany, NY/Albany) both finished with 19 points adding four three pointers. Senior guard Wayne Weir (Bronx, NY/Samuel Gompers) added 14 points and also had four three pointers.
Sage will return to action on Saturday, January 20 travelling to Houghton for a 2 p.m. for an Empire 8 contest.
