Youth L.I.F.E. Support Network, Inc. Beverwyck Renegades Lacrosse program is an evidenced based, sports mentoring program. It is a regional alternative to violence. They offer a youth empowerment program that is designed to help high-risk populations and neighborhoods, and provide them with a safe, fun environment where they can learn more about sportsmanship, themselves, and how to make good choices.
As a crime reduction initiative, Renegades Lacrosse utilizes forfeiture dollars, grants, and private donations to fund a holistic youth support program. Renegades Lacrosse is being implemented in phases; the first phase is to continue to provide for the currently served at risk population. They have confirmed that the participation in lacrosse, and specifically in a program like the one Renegades Lacrosse is providing, has allowed for a 78% drop in juvenile delinquency, truancy, and in school incidents regarding those who participate, according to Albany High School student tracking data. The expansion plan includes partnering with PAL, Big Brothers Big Sisters and the YMCA in the area to track and serve a larger at risk population and to encompass more youth.
