Sage falls at FSC on Saturday, but garner program's first Skyline Conference Tournament bid
Farmingdale, NY---The Sage Colleges women's basketball team travelled to Farmingdale State College for the 2010-2011 regular-season finale. The Farmingdale State College Rams tallied the win, 69-50 over Sage in Skyline Conference women's basketball action. Farmingdale State improves to 18-7 overall and 14-4 in the league, while Sage is now 10-13 overall and went 9-9 in the conference. While the 2011 Skyline Conference women's basketball tournament field will be announced this evening for the six-team field, some seeds have already been clinched, including a No. 5 seed for the Sage Gators, a program first for Sage.
The Gators will face No. 4 seeded SUNY-Old Westbury on Tuesday, February 22 in the quarterfinals of the league in a 7 p.m. road contest.
Farmingdale State held a 26-23 edge at the half after finishing the first stanza on a 15-2 run to erase a 21-11 Sage lead. In the second, the Gators would go tie the action at 29-29 in the first two minutes of play and would see a tie 33-33, but it would be all Farmingdale for the rest of the game. With 8:39 left to play, the Rams went ahead by 11 and would not let the lead slip as they went on for the victory.
Farmingdale State's Keona Jones and Dominique Cunningham finished with 12 points each for the Rams, while Lushanta Savadel hauled down 12 rebounds in the win.
For the Gators, freshman forward Chelsea Martin (Davenport, NY/Jefferson Central) paced the team with 14 points and five rebounds, while sophomore Kara Hackett's (Peru, NY/Peru Central) tallied 10 points with five rebounds. Junior forward Kelsey Frament (Waterford, NY/Catholic Central) added a team-best six rebounds with seven points.
