Carciobolo leads Sage after 20-point effort to key Skyline win
Sarah Carciobolo tallied a season-high 20 points as Sage knocked off the Eagles of St. Joseph's on Saturday.
Albany, NY---The Sage Colleges women's basketball team hosted the Eagles of St. Joseph's College on Saturday afternoon in the Kahl Center. Sage posted the 65-61 win to improve to 2-4 overall and 1-2 in the Skyline Conference, while St. Joseph's drops to 1-4 overall and 0-2 in the league.
Sage led 33-26 at the break, but found themselves down by seven points (58-51) with 4:54 left to play. The Gators took a 62-60 lead at 1:19 as sophomore Carly Vallee (East Greenbush, NY/Catholic Central) hit a clutch three-point basket. Sage held on and sealed the win when senior Jessica Byerwalters (Coeymans Hollow, NY/Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk) sunk both free throws at 0:02 to give Sage a 65-61.
On the day, Sage got a season-high 20 points from junior guard Sarah Carciobolo (Niskayuna, NY/Colonie), while Vallee netted 13 points after both made three treys in the game. Rookie forward Chelsea Martin (Davenport, NY/Jefferson Central) and Byerwalters each finished with 10 points, while Byerwalters pulled down a career-high 14 rebounds. Senior Liz Donk (Phelps, NY/Midlakes) had six assists in the game and has moved into the No. 4 spot on the Gators career assist list as she now has 228, just three behind Sheila Clancy (1985-1989) who is third with 231.
For the Eagles, junior forward Chelsea Lynch (Shoreham, NY/Shoreham-Wading River) collected 14 points off the bench with five rebounds and senior guard Kathleen Lamb (Pt. Jefferson Station, NY/Comsewogue) tallied 11 points. Sophomore guard Ashley Larrea (Medford, NY/Patchogue-Medford) hauled down 14 rebounds with six points, four assists and steals before fouling out of the game.
