MCLA Trailblazers prove too much for Gator women
Albany, NY---The Sage Colleges women's basketball team hosted the Trailblazers of Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts on Thursday night in the Kahl Center. The non-conference game was captured by the Trailblazers, 75-51. MCLA improves to 9-5 overall and the Gators fall to 4-9.
MCLA's junior guard Alie Dobrovoic (Little Falls, NY/Little Falls) led all players with her career-high 28 points after connecting for 10 in the first half as the Trailblazers led 31-18 at the break. MCLA held Sage to a 22.6% shooting effort in the first half (7-31), while forcing 10 turnovers in the first half of action. She finished the night making 11-of-18 from the floor and just missed a double-double as she had nine boards.
Sage's rookie forward Chelsea Martin (Davenport, NY/Jefferson Central) tallied nine points in the first half with a blocked shot. She finished the contest with a team-high 22 points and was a perfect 7-7 from the line and had three steals.
Sage pulled with in 10 points, down 47-37 at 9:41, but could not get any closer to the Trailblazers down the stretch.
Sage sophomore Carly Vallee (East Greenbush, NY/Catholic Central) tallied seven points and added her 37th career three-point basket to move into sole possession of the No. 10 spot on Sage's career trey record book.
MCLA's junior forward Jen Wehner (Cooperstown, NY/Cooperstown) tallied a double-double with her 10 points and 10 rebounds, while just missing a triple double with her nine blocks on the night.
Sage returns to action on January 15 travelling to Bard College for a 2 p.m. Skyline Conference game, while MCLA travels to Westfield State for a 5:30 p.m. contest on January 18.
