Hackett propels Gators past Purchase in 81-57 win
Troy, NY---The Sage Colleges women's basketball team hosted the Panthers of Purchase College on Monday evening in a Skyline Conference contest in the Neff Center. Sage tallied the important conference win as they beat the Panthers, 81-57. Sage improves to 8-10 overall and 7-6 in the league, while Purchase falls to 5-12 overall and 5-7 in the conference.
The Gators led 55-27 at the break as sophomore forward Kara Hackett's (Peru, NY/Peru Central) who tallied a season-high 14 points in the first stanza alone as she was 5-10 from the floor and a perfect 7-7 from the line with seven first half rebounds. Hackett finished with a game-high 23 points after making 7-15 from the floor and 9-11 from the line. She was the co-high rebounder with eight boards.
Sage's senior Jessica Byerwalters (Coeymans Hollow, NY/Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk) added 17 points for the Gators, while junior guard Sarah Carciobolo (Niskayuna, NY/Colonie) added 13 of her 16 points in the first half as well. By game's end rookie Chelsea Martin (Davenport, NY/Jefferson Central) added 16 points as the team racked up a season-high for scoring output with their 81 points.
Sage held the Panthers to a 32.4% effort from the floor in the first half as they shot 11-34. The Gators also held an impressive 26-1 edge of the boards in the first half of action.
Purchase's junior guard Alyse LaPadula (New Rochelle, NY/New Rochelle) added 18 points, while freshman center Rachel Perrone (Poughquag, NY/Arlington) added 12 points with nine rebounds and a pair of blocks, assists, and steals.
Sage returns to action on February 2 for a 6 p.m. Skyline Conference road contest at NYU-Poly, while Purchase College will also be in action in a league contest at St. Joseph's College with a 6 p.m. start.
