Gators shatter three-point record en route to convincing win over Hilbert
Sage made 14 treys and tallied a 77-31 victory on Saturday as they beat the Hawks.
Buffalo, NY---The Sage Colleges women's basketball team was in action on Saturday on the campus of Buffalo State College in the consolation game of the 2010 Betty Abgott Invitational. The Gators pummeled Hilbert College for their first win of the season as they collected a 77-31 victory. Sage improves 1-2, while Hilbert drops to 0-2.
Sage's rookie forward Chelsea Martin (Davenport, NY/Jefferson Central) earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team to wrap a successful week and the start to her collegiate career. She tallied 12 points against Hilbert and finished the weekend with 26 points and 11 rebounds.
The Gators lead 47-16 at the half and shot an impressive 52.9% from the floor and hit for 10 three-pointers in the first stanza of action. By game's end, Sage had three players in double-digits and broke the school record for most three-pointers in a game as they had 14 on Saturday. They bettered the mark which had stood at 10 and met previously twice (2001 and 2010).
Sage got a game-high from junior guard Sarah Carciobolo (Niskayuna, NY/Colonie) as she tallied 14 points with five assists and three steals. Sophomore guard Carly Vallee (East Greenbush, NY/Catholic Central) connected for 13 points. Carciobolo and Vallee each had three three-pointers in the game to lead the record-setting team effort.
Hilbert's junior forward Julie Bossard (Arkport, NY/Canisteo-Greenwood) had a team-high 10 points with 11 rebounds for the Hawks. She was also placed on the All-Tournament Team for her play.
Sage returns to action on November 30 at the Purchase College for their 2010 Skyline Conference opener. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
