Sage delivers on Senior Night as Gators romp past Bard, 69-37
Albany, NY---The Sage Colleges women's basketball team hosted the Raptors of Bard College on Wednesday night in a Skyline Conference contest in the Kahl Center. Sage tallied the important conference win as they beat Bard, 69-37. Sage improves to 10-12 overall and 9-8 in the league, while Bard drops to 4-19 overall and 1-15 in the conference.
Sage recognized their 2010-2011 seniors prior to the contest in conjunction with Senior Night, Jessica Byerwalters (Coeymans Hollow, NY/Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk) and Liz Donk (Phelps, NY/Midlakes). During their careers, they have helped build the women's basketball program at Sage and have this year's squad poised for a 2011 bid to the Skyline Conference tournament, a program first. Entering tonight's action, this talented pair has 922 points, 571 rebounds, 370 assists and 174 steals while wearing the Sage colors.
Sage led 43-17 at the intermission as sophomore forward Kara Hackett's (Peru, NY/Peru Central) paced the team with 16 first half points as she was 7-9 from the floor. Sage shot 66.7% from the floor (18-27), while holding Bard to just 36.8% (7-19). By game's end, she had a game-high 18 points.
Sophomore Carly Vallee (East Greenbush, NY/Catholic Central) tallied 14 points off the bench and tallied four three-point baskets, giving her 41 this season, which is sixth best on the Sage's single-season record book. She also now has tallied 52 career treys, good enough for seventh on the career list .
Donk handed out five assists in the game to push her to 287, which is second best on the Gator career list as well. Byerwalters had four points with four assists for Sage.
Bard's senior forward Latiqua Williams (Bay Shore, NY/Bay Shore) paced her team with 17 points and eight rebounds.
Sage returns to action on February 19 at Farmingdale State College for a 1 p.m. road Skyline Conference game in the regular-season finale. Bard hosts SUNY Old Westbury on Saturday in a 2 p.m. league contest.
