Team effort keys Sage past Yeshiva, 73-45
Albany, NY---The Sage Colleges women's basketball team hosted the Maccabees of Yeshiva University on Sunday afternoon in the Kahl Center. Sage racked up the conference win to improve to 9-12 overall and 8-8 in the league. Yeshiva falls to 2-20 overall and 0-16 in the league.
Sage's junior forward Kelsey Frament (Waterford, NY/Catholic Central) erupted for a career-high 16 points as she was a perfect 4-4 from the line and hit 6-of-9 shots from the floor. She tallied six rebounds as well in the contest.
Sage's senior forward Liz Donk (Phelps, NY/Midlakes) handed out three assists in the contest to move into the No. 2 spot on Sage's career assist list as she now has 282 on her career, including 82 this year. Sophomore Kara Hackett's (Peru, NY/Peru Central) tallied 10 points with seven rebounds and a blocked shot. She stands in fifth place on the career list with 37 blocks.
Junior guard Sarah Carciobolo (Niskayuna, NY/Colonie) contributed 13 points with three assists to pace the Gators to the win.
Yeshiva's senior guard Avigail Varnai (Chicago, IL) racked up 17 points with nine boards and a pair of steals. Senior guard Shir Fuchs (Herzilyah, Israel) added 11 points with three assists and three steals.
Sage returns to action on Wednesday, February 16 hosting Bard College in a 6 p.m. contest in the Kahl Center. Sage will honor their 2011 seniors, Liz Donk and Jessica Byerwalters (Coeymans Hollow, NY/Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk) prior to the game in conjunction with senior night. Sage will also participate in the WBCA's Kay Yow Cancer Fund drive and in encouraging fans to wear pink to the contest.
