Sage falls in 2 OT's to Wildcats
Herkimer, NY---The Sage Colleges men's soccer team traveled to SUNY-IT for a non-conference match on Tuesday. For the second straight contest, the SUNYIT men's soccer team picked up a 1-0 victory in double overtime, this time taking down the Gators. The Wildcats improved to 11-5 overall with the win, while Sage fell to 7-8-1 on the year.
Due to poor field conditions caused by continuous rain, the contest was moved from the Wildcat Soccer Field to Wehrum Stadium on the campus of Herkimer County Community College in Herkimer, NY.
Despite outshooting Sage 18-4, it took the Wildcats 106 minutes of action to find the back of the net. That's when sophomore Eraldo Marku (Maybrooke, NY/Valley Central) sent a perfect cross pass from the close left wing to senior Daniel Twumasi (Brooklyn, NY/James Madison), who blasted home his third game-winning goal of the season to give SUNYIT the victory. It was Twumasi's sixth goal of the year.
SUNYIT freshman goalie Malick Faye (Bronx, NY/MLK) made one save and recorded his sixth shutout of the season, while Sage's freshman Carmen Volpe (Cohoes, NY/CBA) registered eight saves for Sage.
