Gators Come Back From 0-2 to Take Down Keuka

KEUKA, N.Y. – Russell Sage College Women's Volleyball, who clinched a spot in the Empire 8 Conference Championship tournament on Friday night, picked up another conference victory on Saturday over Keuka in five sets.
The Gators (11-11/6-3 E8) trailed the host Wolves 2-0 after the first two sets, and came back to win 3-2 (21-25, 22-25, 25-20, 25-10, 15-13).
RSC had three attackers register double-digit kills in the victory. Freshman outside hitter Paige Kemmer (Voorheesville, NY/Clayton A. Bouton) had 13 kills, junior setter Cassidy Weiher (Aurora, CO/Cherokee Trail/Southern Maine) added twelve, and senior outside hitter Ashleigh Gerkman (Valatie, NY/Ichabod Crane) totaled eleven kills.
Freshman setter Emma Curry (Goodyear, AZ/Estrella Foothills) totaled 23 digs, while senior setter Mia Wood (Scotia, NY/Scotia-Glenville) assisted her teammates 26 times.
"I'm really proud of how the girls battled all weekend," shared Head Coach Rosilyn Cummings. "We were down 2-1 against Elmira and 2-0 against Keuka and came back and won both games. I am super proud of the growth of the group over this weekend and we're really excited that we clinched the playoff berth."
RSC is back in action on Friday as they head to Brockport.
Gator Bites with Papa John's: RSC made its first appearance in the Empire 8 Conference Championship Tournament last fall…Seven players return this season, including: Kelley and senior outside hitter Ashleigh Gerkman (Valatie, NY/Ichabod Crane)…Head Coach Rosilyn Cummings, now in her third season at the helm of the Gators, added nine newcomers to this year's squad…Gerkman was selected the Empire 8 Conference Player of the Week for the period ending Sunday, August 31...Curry registered 14 aces and 65 digs across three matches this week...The freshman libero tallied 11 acres, 1.10 per-set, and 44 digs, 4.40 per-set, in road wins at Elmira and Keuka...The victories helped the Gators return to the Empire 8 Conference Championship Tournament for the second-straight fall.
