Hunter explodes for a career-high 25 points as Sage downs Yeshiva
Sage's rookie Marcus Hunter led the Gators as they swept Yeshiva after Sunday's 79-67 win.
New York, NY--- The Sage Colleges' men's basketball team collected an impressive road win on Sunday afternoon over Yeshiva University in a Skyline Conference match-up as the Gators triumphed, 79-67. The win gives the Gators a sweep of Yeshiva on the year and puts Sage at 6-14 overall and 5-11 in the Skyline Conference. Yeshiva drops to 9-11 overall and 8-8 in the league.
Freshman Marcus Hunter (Ridge, NY/Longwood) led the Gators with a career-high 25 points to lead Sage, surpassing his previous best of 20 points. Sage led 36-28 at the half as Hunter had 12 points to lead all scorers after hitting 6-of-8 from the floor. The Gators hit 60.9% of their shots as well after making 14-32 of their field goals to help them to the win while holding the Maccabees to a 39.3% FG (11-28.)
By game's end, Sage had four players in double-digit scoring. Sage's rookie Mason Horne (Albany, NY/La Salle Institute) finished with 17 points, while freshman forward Matt Farbotko (Rouses Point, NY/Northeastern Clinton) added a double-double on 14 points with 10 rebounds.
For the second straight game, rookie guard Jeff Stopera (Scotia, NY/Scotia Glenville) tied his career-best as he netted 10 points for the Gators after making all eight of his free throws on the day.
Yeshiva's Jeremy Pressman added 17 points for his squad, while Biron Chen added 16 points.
Sage returns to action on the road on Tuesday, February 9 as they face the College of Mount Saint Vincent in a Skyline Conference game at 7 p.m.
