Hunter's double-double lifts Sage past NYU-Poly
Sage got 18 points and 18 bards from Marcus Hunter to help the Gators knock off the Blue Jays.
Albany, NY---The Sage Colleges men's basketball team hosted the Blue Jays of NYU-Poly on Saturday afternoon in the Kahl Campus Center. Sage's freshman forward Marcus Hunter (Ridge, NY/Longwood) racked up a double-double as he finished with 18 points and 18 rebounds with six blocks to help the Gators to a 76-62 win. Sage improves to 5-13 overall and 4-9 in the Skyline Conference, while NYU-Poly drops to 4-14 overall and 2-11 in the league.
Sage led 35-26 at the break as Hunter added 12 of his 18 points in the first half. The Gators shot 41.9% from the floor in the first half (13-31), while holding the Blue Jays to just 24.3% (9-37) including just 25% from three-point range. Rookie Mason Horne (Albany, NY/LaSalle Institute) added a double-digit effort as well for Sage as he finished with 15 points including 10 in the first half after shooting 100% (4-4).
Hunter finished with 18 rebounds which is a career-high and tied his career-high for blocks with six as well. Sage also got 17 points and eight rebounds from freshman forward Matt Farbotko (Rouses Point, NY/Northeastern Clinton), while freshman Matt Lee (Balltson Lake, NY/Shenendehowa) added 12 points as he was a perfect 4-4 from three-point range.
NYU-Poly's freshman Myles Hinchcliffe (Flower Mound, TX/Flower Mound) had a double-digit performance on the day as he had all 11 of his points in the first half for the Blue Jays.
Sophomore center Alexandar Westphal (Port Washington, WI/Port Washington) had a game-high and career-best 19 rebounds and finished with nine points and six blocks for the Blue Jays. Junior forward Jason Buckner (Littleton, CO/Dakota Ridge) also had a career-high as he had 22 points on the afternoon with nine rebounds.
Sage returns to action on February 3 travelling to Mount Saint Mary College for a 7 p.m. Skyline Conference game, while NYU-Poly hosts Maritime College also on February 3 at 7 p.m.
