Sage men rack up 67-55 win over Yeshiva in Skyline play

Albany, NY---The Sage Colleges men’s basketball team hosted
the Maccabees of Yeshiva University on Tuesday night in the Kahl
Campus Center. Sage triumphed 67-55 to end the team’s
seven-game losing streak. Sage now stands at 3-11 overall and 2-8
in the Skyline Conference, while Yeshiva falls to 5-7 overall and
4-4 in the league.
The teams were tied at 31-31 at the break after Yeshiva led by as
many as 13 points (29-16, 5:43). Sage went on a 15-2 run to end the
half. Freshman forward Matt Farbotko (Rouses Point, NY/Northeastern
Clinton) added 13 points to help Sage in the first half. By
game’s end, Farbotko racked up 23 points to lead the
Gators.
Yeshiva’s senior guard Martin Leibovich (Buenos Aires,
Argentina) racked up 16 of 25points in the first half for the
Maccabees. He was 7-11 from the floor in the first stanza and added
a pair of three-point baskets. Yeshiva, which had not played since
Dec. 14, 2009, shot 46.7% from the floor in the first half (14-30),
while the Gators hit 65.0% of their shots (13-20).
Sage opened the second half on a 10-2 run and mounted a 41-33 lead
to open the second half. Sage led 60-44 with 4:40 left and never
trailed down the stretch as they finished with a 53.8% shooting
performance (25-43) and held the Maccabees to just 36.5% from the
floor (23-63) and only 20% from three-point range (5-25) on the
game.
Freshman Mervin Springer (Copiague, NY/Copiague) added 19 points as
he hit 7-11 from the floor. Mason Horne (Albany, NY/LaSalle
Institute) added 10 points for the Gators.
Yeshiva’s Leibovich racked up 25 points and was the only
player in double-digits as he finished with a double-double adding
11 rebounds with three steals.
Sage returns to action on January 21 hosting Bard College in the
Kahl Campus Center at 8 p.m., while Yeshiva University hosts Mt.
Saint Vincent on Thursday at 8 p.m.
