Troy, NY---The Sage Colleges men's basketball team hosted the Panthers of Purchase College on Wednesday night in the Neff Athletic Campus Center. Purchase College racked up their eighth straight win as they beat the Gators 88-73 on Wednesday night. With the win, Purchase stands at 13-5 overall and 10-3 in the Skyline Conference, while Sage drops to 4-13 overall and 3-10 in the league.
Purchase College's junior forward Marvin Billups (Chester, NY/Monroe-Woodbury) finished with 21 points on the night after helping his team to the 45-39 halftime lead with 14 points in the first stanza. He finished the night with a 9-15 effort from the floor.
Junior Corey Orgias (Highland Mills, NY/Monroe-Woodbury) added 18 points and eight rebounds for the Panthers, while junior Charles Thompson (Upper Marlboro, MD/Charles Herbert Flowers) added 16 points with eight rebounds and two blocked shots.
Sage's freshman forward Marcus Hunter (Ridge, NY/Longwood) added 16 of his 20 points in the first half and finished with four rebounds and five blocked shots. Freshman forward Matt Farbotko (Rouses Point, NY/Northeastern Clinton) added 19 points and five rebounds, while rookie Mervin Springer (Copiague, NY/Copiague) connected for 14 points with five rebounds. Matt Lee (Ballston Lake, NY/Shenendehowa) added 11 points off the bench for the Gators.
Sage returns to action on January 30 hosting NYU-Poly in a 3 p.m. Skyline Conference game in the Kahl Campus Center, while Purchase College hosts St. Joseph's College in a conference game that same day at 3 p.m.
