Gators fall at Maritime, 78-58
Throggs Neck, NY---The Sage Colleges men's basketball team travelled to Maritime College for a Skyline Conference game. Maritime College (7-3, 5-2) recorded the 78-58 win. Sage drops to 2-10 overall and 1-7 in the conference after Thursday's loss.
Sages' rookie forward Marcus Hunter (Ridge, NY/Longwood) led the team in scoring while making his first start as he added 14 points. Matt Farbotko (Rouses Point, NY/Northeastern Clinton) added 11 points, while rookie Mervin Springer (Copiague, NY/Copiague) added 10 points.
Maritime led 35-30 at the break and held the Gators to just 16.7% shooting from three-point range for the game. The Privateers had six player finish in double-digit scoring as senior Adedokun Olarewaju (Brooklyn, NY) paced the squad with his 16 points and nine rebounds. He shot 6-11 from the floor, as did Andre Cooper (Baltimore, MD) who added 15 points in the game.
Sage returns to action on January 16 when they host SUNY Old Westbury in the Neff Athletic Center. The contest is a doubleheader and marks the first women's and men's doubleheader to be held in the Neff Athletic Center. The women's contest tips first at 1 p.m. and the men's game follows at 3 p.m.
