Men's volleyball players and team among the national stats leaders
Albany, NY--- The Sage Colleges' men's volleyball team and its members are amongst the national NCAA Division III statistical leaders with the release of the second statistical rankings. Sage, which is 13-5 on the year is ranked nationally in six team categories, while several players rank in the national Top 40 statistically.
Sage ranks 11th nationally in win percentage .722, while ranking 13th in digs per set (10.39), 26th in assists per set (10.1), 27th in kills per set (10.98), 27th in blocks per set (1.94), and 30th in aces per set (1.32).
Among the 2012 team members nationally ranked are junior setter Kyle Ray (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) as he ranks 11th in setting assists per set (9.42). Ray checks in with a team-best 584 setting assists this season. He holds an active career record having handed out 1,295 career setting assists. He has 306 kills with 452 digs and 67 aces in 69 career matches played at Sage.
Junior middle hitter Spencer Hilland (Slingerlands, NY/Bethlehem Central) ranks in four seperate categories. He is 15th in kills per set average (3.4), while ranking 26th in blocks per set (0.94), 47th in digs per set (2.05), and 49th in hitting percentage (.266). Overall on the 2012 season, the Gators are led by Hilland, who has a team-best 211 kills with 58 total blocks. Through 36 career matches, Hilland now has 451 kills with 119 blocks.
Sophomore Scott Fitzgerald (Hudson Falls, NY/Queensbury) ranks 20th in aces per set with a 0.48 per set average, while sophomore Dylan Krowicki (Little Falls, NY/Little Falls) is also ranked 25th in kills per set (3.15) and 38th in digs per set (2.15). Fitzgerald has 143 kills with 108 digs, both of which are third highest on the team. He leads the Gators with his 30 aces and has added 40 total blocks on the season. Krowicki leads Sage with 131 digs and is second on the team with 192 kills. He has tallied 10 aces with 19 blocks on the season.
Sage will be back in action on March 14, when they host the Mountaineers of Southern Vermont College at 7 p.m. in the Kahl Center.
