In men’s volleyball, sophomore Dylan Krowicki (Little Falls, NY/Little Falls) was named the Skyline Conference men’s volleyball player of the week, his second selection for the award. In the team’s lone match of the week, Krowicki helped spur a come from behind win over Southern Vermont College as he racked up a double-double with 25 kills with 10 digs.
Sage’s sophomore Scott Fitzgerald (Hudson Falls, NY/Queensbury) was named to the Skyline Conference Weekly Honor Roll for the third time this season after he tallied 15 digs with nine kills in the Gators’ 3-2 win over SVC.
In women’s lacrosse, Sage's junior Alexa Veeder (Earlton, NY/Academy of the Holy Names) earned Skyline Conference Player of the Week honors. By game’s end, she had established Sage single-game records for most goals (123), most points (14), most shots (16) and most draws won (10). Veeder leads the 2012 team with a program-best best 19 goals this season, which is just one shy of tying the single-season goal scoring record set in 2009 by Brianna Thompson (20 goals). She broke the single-season point record just 4 games into the 2012 season as she leads the Gators with 22 points on 19 goals and 3 assists, one more than the mark set by Thompson in 2009 with 21 points. She added a pair of goals and an assist in the team’s first contest of the week at Bard College.
For Sage’s softball team, which went 4-0 last week and boasts an impressive 8-4 overall record, the Gators garnered the Player of the Week and the Pitcher of the Week in rookie infielder Kristen Beikirch (Brockport, NY/Brockport) and junior pitcher Kelsey Newberg (New Britain, CT/New Britain).
Newberg earned Pitcher of the Week for the first time this season after she tossed a no-hit gem on Sunday after fanning 10 in the team’s 8-0 win over Southern Vermont College. Her performance came on the heels of an 11-k effort the day before and she helped Sage down Cazenovia, 9-1. She was 2-0 last week with 21 K’s and a 0.64 ERA, while limiting the opposition to a 0.30 batting average in 11 IP. She surpassed the 100 career strikeout plateau as well and now has 104, which stands 4th best on the Gator career list. She is now just 44 K’s away from breaking the career record established by Kristin Hazelton (147).
Last week’s Skyline Conference Softball Rookie of the Week, Beikirch continues to draw attention for her outstanding play. A four-game starter last week with time at second and behind the plate, she batted .833 last week alone with 10 hits and 6 RBIs.
