Troy, NY ----Head softball coach and assistant athletic director, Lindsay Sawyer has announced her resignation at The Sage Colleges. Sawyer will be leaving Sage in August for a position as head softball coach at Westfield State University (MA).
Sawyer came to Sage after a successful career as a decorated shortstop at Division I Hofstra University and assistant coaching stints at Long Island University-C.W. Post Campus and the University of Rhode Island.
“We are going to miss Lindsay in many ways beyond coaching," said Director of Athletics, Dani Drews. Drews added, "Lindsay brought so much energy and creativity to work every day as an administrator and colleague. She has done a tremendous job with the softball program as well. The team has improved in every way since her arrival. Our next coach will have big shoes to fill.”
The Gators have begun to accumulate quite a collection in the trophy case over the past four seasons under Sawyer's guidance. The team boasts 29 Skyline Conference Scholar-Athlete honorees, including a program-best 11 in 2011, 16 NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete citations, one Skyline Conference First-Team and four Skyline Conference Second-Team honorees, as well as two All-Region honorees.
Sawyer says of her departure, “Working under Dani Drews’ tutelage has been an invaluable experience." Sawyer added, "I sincerely appreciate her giving me the opportunity to test my skills four years ago. Thanks to her support, this team has all the elements to continue its success."
This past November, Sawyer was recognized for her stellar high school career as a member of the first class inducted into the East Longmeadow (MA) High School Hall of Fame.
“While I’m thrilled to be heading back my roots, I’ll surely miss the Sage community,” said Sawyer. “I have thoroughly enjoyed my time spent in the Capital Region, especially with Sage’s dedicated athletic department staff. The entire campus has been hugely supportive of me and the softball program; it's been a great experience!”
A national search to replace Sawyer will begin immediately.
