New York, NY--Two members of Sage's fall teams, juniors Helen Putriment (Troy, NY/Cobleskill Richmondville) and Kirsten Ackerman (Rensselear, NY/Guilderland) were named the Athlete of the Week in their respective sports.
For Putriment, an outside hitter on the volleyball team, the selection as Skyline Women's Volleyball Player of the Week is the third of the year, while Ackerman has earned four straight selections as the Skyline Women's Tennis Player of the Week citations.
Putriment earned the award after she averaged 4.33 kills and 3.67 digs over six sets with an attacking percentage of .561 as Sage posted 3-0 wins over MCLA (Sept. 24) and Old Westbury (Sept. 28). She compiled 17 kills and 14 digs versus the Panthers and nine kills and eight digs versus MCLA. On the season, she leads Sage with her 180 kills, while sporting a .205 attack percentage. She has 254 digs with 10 total blocks and a team-best 23 aces.
Ackerman, who was the 2012 Skyline Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Year and a 2012 SKyline Conference First Team All-Star, went 5-2 last week in singles play. She added a 4-1 record in doubles player with her partner. While competing at the 2013 ITA Regionals, she knocked off two seeded players and advanced to the quarterfinals of the singles bracket. Her appearance in the quarterfinals of the ITA's is a Sage women's tennis first!
