Sage triumphs over NYU-Poly, but falls in five sets to Kean
Brooklyn, NY--- The Sage Colleges' men's volleyball team travelled to NYU-Poly for a tri-match on Saturday afternoon with Kean University, NYU-Poly and the Gators. Sage tallied a 3-0 win over NYU-Poly (25-16, 25-14, 25-20) in the first match. The Gators took Kean to five sets in the nightcap, but fell 3-2 (25-21, 20-25, 26-24, 23-25, 17-15). Sage is now 5-4 overall and 4-2 in the league.
Against the Fighting Blue Jays of NYU-Poly, sophomore outside hitter Dylan Krowicki (Little Falls, NY/Little Falls) had 12 kills with eight digs. Sage's co-captain, junior middle hitter Spencer Hilland (Slingerlands, NY/Bethlehem Central) tallied nine kills with seven digs and four total blocks.
Sophomore middle hitter Connor Thompson (Delmar, NY/Christian Brothers Academy) added seven kills with a pair of digs. Junior setter and co-captain Kyle Ray (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) racked up 29 setting assists and six digs with an ace.
Against Kean, the Gators played a competitive and exciting contest that went the full distance. The Cougars tallied the win and improve to 7-2 overall and 5-0 in the league.
Sage's Hilland had 24 kills with 11 digs, and three total blocks. Krowicki racked up 18 kills as well and had an ace with eight digs. Thompson had five total blocks, including three solo blocks. Ray added 46 setting assists with three digs and an ace.
Ray now has 979 career setting assists and is closing in on becoming the program's first player to reach 1,000 setting assists. He has also connected on 401 career digs as well in his time in a Sage uniform.
The Gators return to action on February 14 hosting NYU-Poly at 7 p.m. in the Kahl Center in a Skyline Conference contest that will also feature a serving contest with prizes for fans.
