Albany, NY-- Several members of Sage’s men’s basketball team were on hand at the 29th Annual BCANY (Basketball Coaches Association of New York) Fall Clinic on September 24-25. Friday night’s schedule included talks from Dan Hurley, head men’s basketball coach at Wagner College, Jim Boheim, head men’s basketball coach at Syracuse University and Jeff Van Gundy, former NBA head coach of the New York Knicks and the Houston Rockets.
Five of Sage’s men’s players were on court demonstrators on Saturday. They received instruction from Zach Spiker, head men's basketball coach at Army for an hour and then Van Gundy for the second hour. There were over 100 high school and college coaches in attendance from all over New York State.
Head Sage men’s basketball coach, Brian Barnes said of the experience, “It was exciting to see Coach Van Gundy and Coach Spiker working with our players.’ Barnes added, “I liked our enthusiasm throughout the workout and our competitiveness in each of the drills. Anytime you have an opportunity to learn from some of the best you certainly want to take full advantage and these guys did just that."
Among the Gators in attendance, were rookie Ryan Labelle (East Berne, NY/Berne Knox Westerlo), sophomore Ryan Sager (Stuyvesant, NY/Ichabod Crane), senior Derick Faragon (Rotterdam Junction, NY/Schenectady), senior Garret Bishop (Saratoga, NY/Saratoga Springs), and sophomore Jake Douty (Rensselaer, NY/Columbia).
