Troy's Sean McAvoy joins men's basketball coaching staff
Albany, NY---The Sage Colleges men’s basketball staff welcomes Troy native, Sean McAvoy to the 2010-2011 coaching staff. A 1999 graduate of Catholic Central High School, McAvoy joins the men’s basketball staff at Sage and will work with head coach Brian Barnes.
Head Coach Brian Barnes, said of McAvoy’s selection, “Sean possesses the passion and energy for winning that will help our program take a huge step forward this season.” Barnes added, “his competitive nature and enthusiasm are a great addition to our staff and I look forward to seeing Sean develop as a collegiate assistant coach.”
McAvoy attended Herkimer County Community College and played two seasons with the Generals. He helped the team to the program’s first playoff appearance in ten seasons and led the Mountain Valley Conference in three-point field goal percentage and three-pointers made both seasons. He also earned all-conference acclaim as a sophomore.
He studies physical education at HCCC and put his background to good use having served as a program director at the Capital District YMCA. An experienced youth coach, he has also directed year-long adult basketball leagues.
