Faragon's double-double not enough as Sage falls to MSMC, 63-50
Albany, NY--- The Sage Colleges men's team hosted the Knights of Mt. St. Mary College on Thursday evening in a Skyline Conference contest. MSMC's squad tallied the win as they collected the 63-50 win to improve to 9-5 overall and 7-2 in the Skyline Conference. The Gators fall to 5-8 overall and 3-6 in the Skyline Conference.
MSMC led 21-18 at the break in a defensive battle. Senior forward Tim Morris (Greenwich, NY/Greenwich) paced the Knights at the break with seven points, while Sage's senior forward Derick Faragon (Rotterdam Junction, NY/Schenectady) led the team with his seven first-half points and six rebounds. Both teams shot under 30.0% from the floor in the first stanza of action. By game's end, Morris tallied 16 points with eight boards, while junior forward Kevin Lilella (Floral Park, NY/Kellenberg Memorial) also had a double-digit performance with 12 points.
Sage's Faragon has now connected for double-digit scoring in every game on the season with three double-doubles after finishing with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Sophomore center Ryan Sager (Stuyvesant, NY/Ichabod Crane) connected for 10 points for the Gators, while senior a forward Lamont Garland (Albany, NY/Colonie) tallied nine points off the bench.
Sage's sophomore forward Matt Farbotko (Rouses Point, NY/Northeastern Clinton) had his streak of consecutive double-digit scoring performances snapped in the contest after 20 consecutive double-digit performances dating back to January 5, 2010. He finished the night with just three points.
Sage returns to action on January 15 travelling to Bard College for a 4 p.m. league contest, while Mt. St. Marty College visits Purchase College for a noon league game, also on Saturday, January 15.
