Gators fall on the road as win streak is snapped
The men's hoops team fell in the 2010-2011 Skyline Conference opener, despite a strong showing by several players including 14 points from Jeff Stopera.
Purchase, NY---The Sage Colleges men's basketball team traveled to Purchase College for the conference opener as they faced the undefeated Panthers. Purchase remained unbeaten with an 87-65 victory over the Gators. The loss snaps Sage's two-game win streak and put the squad at 2-3 overall and 0-1 in the Skyline Conference, while Purchase improved to 5-0 overall and 2-0 in the league.
Purchase led 49-35 at the break and got a strong performance from senior forward Marvin Billups (Chester, NY/Monroe-Woodbury) as he led all players with 17 points. He was joined in double-digit scoring by senior guard Michael McNair (Valley Cottage, NY/Nyack) as he netted 15 points.
For Sage, sophomore guard Jeff Stopera (Scotia, NY/Scotia Glenville) tallied a team-high 14 points, while handing out seven assists and picking off three steals.
Sophomore center Ryan Sager (Stuyvesant, NY/Ichabod Crane) racked up a career-high 11 points and 11 rebounds for the Gators and shot an impressive 5-7 from the floor and had a pair of blocks. Senior forward Derick Faragon (Rotterdam Junction, NY/Schenectady) chipped in with 10 points.
Sage returns to action on December 2 travelling to Mt. St. Mary College for a 7 p.m. Skyline Conference game.
