Green Mountain spoils Sage's home opener, 14-4

Albany, NY----The Sage Colleges’ women’s lacrosse team hosted the Eagles of Green Mountain College on Thursday in the team’s home opener. Green Mountain College earned the 14-4 victory to improve to 3-4 overall, while Sage drops to 1-6.  

GMC’s freshman Bryanna Astor (Milltown, NJ/Spotstwood) and junior Amanda Malkin (Barrylakes, NJ/Vernon Township) each connected on three goals a piece in the game, while Astor added an assist to lead the team. Malkin leads the team with her 18 goals and 24 points, while Astor is second in scoring with 13 goals and three assists for 16 points.

Sage’s sophomore Erica Fitzgerald (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) paced the Gators with her two goals, while sophomore midfielder Ginelle Butler (Malta, NY/Ballston Spa) and junior midfielder Gabrielle Piccione (West Winfield, NY/Mount Markham) added a goal a piece. Butler added an assist for the Gators.

GMC’s sophomore goalie Kelsy Allan (Jupiter, FL/Jupiter) got the win in net as she made 15 saves, while  Sage’s freshman goalie Courtney Reed (Mechanicville, NY/Mechanicville) recorded six saves in the contest.

Sage returns to action on Saturday, April 10 hosting the College of Mt. St. Vincent at Albany Academy for Girls, while Green Mountain College travels to Thomas College (ME) for a 1 p.m. game on Saturday.
