Gators snap losing skid as Gray and Hankle combine for Sage's OT win
Annandale on Hudson, NY----The Sage Colleges’ women’s lacrosse team traveled to Bard College for a Skyline Conference game on Tuesday night. The Gators would tally the 12-11 victory in overtime to earn the squad’s first win of the season and snap a seven-game losing streak. Sage improves to 1-5 overall and 1-1 in the Skyline Conference, while Bard drops to 0-5 overall and 0-5 in the Skyline Conference.
Sage’s senior co-captain Jessica Hankle (Wyantskill, NY/Averill Park) provided the spark to both tie the game at 11-11 in regulation and the game-winning goal with one minute left in the overtime period. She finished the night with four goals and now has five on the 2010 season.
Sage’s two-sport athlete, senior midfielder Christina Gray (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) racked up a team-high five goals in the contest, which ties the school-record for most goals in a game set last season by Amber Winslow (vs. NYU-Poly). Gray now has a team-leading seven goals on the season after adding a pair in 2009. Senior midfielder Karalin Weilacher (Ticonderoga, NY/Ticonderoga) and sophomore Erica Fitzgerald (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) each tallied a goal and an assist for the Gators. Sophomore midfielder Ginelle Butler (Malta, NY/Ballston Spa) also got into the scoring action as she added a goal in the game.
For the Gators, the 12 goals scored ties the school record set last year for most goals in a game (4/21/2009 vs. NYU-Poly), while breaking the mark set in the same contest for most points as the team had 14 points in the game.
Sage’s freshman goalie Courtney Reed (Mechanicville, NY/Mechanicville) recorded 17 saves in the contest, while improving to 1-5 in net.
Sage returns to action on Thursday, April 8 hosting Green Mountain College at Albany Academy for Girls in the team’s home opener at 4 p.m. Bard College hosts Wells College also on April 8 at 4 p.m.
