Maritime earns 13-12 win with late-game goal
Throggs Neck, NY----The Privateers tallied a 13-12 win over The Sage Colleges in women’s lacrosse on Thursday night. Privateer sophomore Catherine Brady (Holbrook, NY/Sachem North) would score the game-winning goal with just under four minutes left to play to lift her team to the Skyline Conference win as Maritime improves to 3-10 overall and 2-4 in the league. The Gators fall to 1-11 overall and 1-6 in the conference.
Brady finished with a team-high six goals on the night and helped Maritime overcome a 6-5 deficit at the half.
Sage’s senior Christina Gray (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) added four goals and an assist for five points on the night, while sophomore Ginelle Butler (Malta, NY/Ballston Spa) added three goals. Gray leads the team with her 13 goals this year, while Butler has a team-high 16 points on 12 goals with four assists.
Sage’s freshman goalie Courtney Reed (Mechanicville, NY/Mechanicville) recorded 13 saves in the contest, while Maritime’s senior Meagan Golden (Pt. Pleasant, NJ/Pt. Pleasant) added 10 saves in earning the win.
Sage returns to action on Saturday, April 24 for the team’s final game of the 2010 campaign as they host Montclair State University, in a Skyline Conference match at 11 a.m. at Albany Academy for Girls. Prior to the match, Sage will honor their 2010 seniors in conjunction with Senior Day!
