DeMarinis ties school record as Gators hand Old Westbury, 90-73 loss

Troy, NY--- The Sage College women's basketball team hosted the Panthers of SUNY Old Westbury on Saturday in the Neff Athletic Center in a Skyline Conference. Sage would collect the winning score by day's end of 90-73 to snap a five-game losing streak. Sage's senior Carlin DeMarinis (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga Springs) and rookie forward Kara Hackett (Peru, NY/Peru Central) paced the team with 27 and 26 points each. Sage improves to 5-8 overall and 3-5 in the Skyline Conference, while Old Westbury drops to r8-7 overall and 3-5 in the league.
Sage led 38-32 at the half as Hackett paced the team on the day. She had 14 of her 26 points in the first half. By game's end, she added 26 points with a game-high 14 rebounds. She also had nine first half rebounds as well. Sage's DeMarinis erupted for a career-high 27 points as she netted seven three-point baskets in the game, including five second half treys. She surpassed her previous career-high of 19 points from a year ago.
DeMarinis tied Sage's single-game record for most three-point baskets with her seven treys. She tied the 2004 record set by Jamie Desso (Jan. 30, 2004, vs. SUNY-IT).
The 90 points by the Gators was a season-high for the team, which previously tallied 79 points back on December 3 in a conference win.
Old Westbury's freshman guard Krystina Agard (Queens, NY/August Martin) added 34 points as she poured in 22 points in the second half. Agard hit 10-of 16 from the floor and was 9-11 from the line for her team. Freshman guard Daniella Santos (Inwood, NY) added 10 points, while junior forward Shannon Gilly (Staten Island, NY) finished with 12 rebounds and eight points for her team
Sage returns to action on Tuesday, January 19 hosting Yeshiva University in the Kahl Campus Center at 6 p.m. in a league contest, while SUNY-Old Westbury hosts NYU-Poly that same night in a 7 p.m. Skyline Conference game.
