Hackett stars as Sage triumphs, 62-52
Buffalo, NY---The Sage College women's basketball team captured the consolation game on Saturday with a 62-52 win over Hartwick College in the Buffalo State College Betty Abgott Tip-Off Tournament. Sage improves to 2-2 on the year, while Hartwick is now 1-3.
Saturday's contest was a rematch of the season-opener as the two teams faced one another on Sunday with the hosts, Hartwick College triumphing, 67-60 in overtime.
Sage was led by rookie forward Kara Hackett (Peru, NY/Peru Central) as the Gator newcomer exploded for 27 points and 17 rebounds on the day. She earned a spot on the all-tournament team for her play that included 33 points and 22 rebounds in two games.
Hackett shot an impressive 10-18 from the floor and finished the day with 11 defensive rebounds for a total of 17 rebounds. She had 11 points and nine rebounds in the first half as Sage led 28-25 at the half.
The Gators also got 11 points from junior guard Elizabeth Donk (Phelps, NY/Midlakes) as was the only other Sage player in double-digits on the day.
Hartwick was paced by senior guard Lauren Ploof (Hammond, NY/Hammond) who netted 19 points, while Jalicia Conell's (Westbery, NY/Hicksville) racked up 16 points in the loss.
Sage returns to action on Tuesday, November 24 travelling to Skidmore College for a 6 p.m. road contest with the Thoroughbreds.
