Geisel collects decisive victory to lead Sage past Oswego State in women's tennis, 5-4
Albany, NY—The Sage Colleges' women's tennis team opened the 2018 season on Saturday hosting the Lakers of Oswego State on Saturday at the Tennis Courts at Albany Academy. Sage posted a 5-4 win to improve to 1-0 on the year, while Oswego drops to 0-1.
Sage took all three doubles matches to take a 3-0 lead into the singles matches. At first doubles junior Sadie Dunne (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) and junior co-captain Abbey Clobridge (West Sand Lakes, NY/Averill Park) posted an 8-2 win over senior Lorrayne Broach (Savannah, NY/Clyde-Savannah) and junior Eliza Johnson (Oneida, NY/Vernon-Verona-Sherill). Juniors Julia Geisel (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) and Rebecca Jackson (Saugerties, NY/John A. Coleman) added the 8-2 win at second doubles, while sophomore Alison Trudo (West Chazy, NY/ Beekmantown) and sophomore Molly Cochrane (Ravena, NY/Ravena-Coeymans) added a win beating their foes at third doubles, 8-7 (7-1 in the tie breaker).
Jackson and Geisel added singles wins for the Gators to preserve the victory for the Gators on opening day as Geisel had the match to clinch the win.
Sage is back in action on September 2 hosting SUNY-Delhi at Albany Academy's Tennis Facility at 1 p.m.
