Albany, NY— The Empire 8 Conference announced the 2019 Softball All-Conference Teams on Thursday. Sage's junior Amanda Kiriakos (Yonkers, NY/Saunders Trade & Technical) was named to the Honorable Mention Team for her play in the Gator outfield, while sophomore Cassidy Schaeffer (Esperance, NY/Duanesburg) was named to the Empire 8 Softball Sportswomen Team.
Kiriakos led the Gators at the plate in 2019 after batting .381 with a team-best 45 hits. She added nine extra-base hits including seven doubles with 13 RBI. She also had a .483 slugging percentage to go with her 10 stolen bases and a .405 on-base percentage. She also had a perfect fielding percentage on the season with no errors and made 60 putouts with three assists.
Her 2019 numbers are among many of the team's top single-season efforts as she ranks 15th all-time in single-season hits, tied for 23rd in single-season at bat (118), as well as tied for 36th in single-season doubles with seven. She is also tied for 29th in runs scored in a year (24), while now boasting 73 career hits which is 30th best in Gator softball history having now started all 61 games she has played in while at Sage. In her two seasons with the Gators, she already owns a .353 batting average with 12 doubles, and 22 RBI.
Schaeffer, worked in 14 games on the 2019 and exemplified sportsmanship for Sage on her second campaign with the Gators. One member of each team was named that institution's representative on the 2019 Softball Sportswoman of the Year Team. The Empire 8 Conference emphasizes that "Competing with Honor and Integrity" is an essential component of a student-athlete's experience in conjunction with an institution's educational mission. These honorees have distinguished themselves and consistently exhibit the critical traits as outstanding sportswomen.
