Senior guard Layla Acosta (Haines City, FL/Haines City), announced as the Empire 8 Conference Player of the Week on Monday, topped the Gators, which held Union to a 1-of-16 performance from beyond the arc, with 26 points on 50.0 percent shooting.

Union (2-0), which went to the foul line 33 times compared to just 15 for RSC, received double-doubles from senior forward Jelena Perovic and sophomore forward Olivia Cunningham in the home non-conference victory. Perovic registered 23 points, 13 rebounds and four blocks, while Cunningham contributed 18 points and 16 rebounds.
Trailing 33-26 at the break, the Garnet Chargers turned the tide with a 19-9 third period. An 11-3 Union fourth quarter run spanning 3:35 put the hosts, which went 11-of-14 from the charity stripe in the final frame, ahead by seven, 60-53, with 1:37 left.
Looking ahead, RSC (1-1) hosts SUNY Morrisville on Saturday afternoon.
