Skidmore tops Sage, 50-45
Despite a team-high 12 points in her return home by Carlin DeMarinis, Sage dropped a 50-45 decision to Skidmore.
Saratoga Springs, NY---Skidmore College hosted Sage in women's basketball on Tuesday night and posted a 50-45 victory in non-conference play to remain unbeaten. Skidmore improves to 3-0 on the year, while Sage drops to 2-3.
Skidmore led 27-26 at the break after senior forward Dana Leonard (Cooperstown, NY/Cooperstown Central) hit a three-pointer in the final seconds of the half. Sage had led by as many at 10 points (18-8, at 10:26), but the Thoroughbreds slipped back into the contest.
The Gators clawed back and after four ties in the second half, Skidmore would pull away for good at 6:34 as senior guard Amber Kinsey (Troy, NY/Lansingburgh) hit a layup and broke a 38-38 tie.
For the game, Sage's senior Carlin DeMarinis (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga Springs) netted a team-high 12 points off the bench after adding a pair of three-pointers with four steals in her homecoming. Sophomore Kelsey Frament (Waterford, NY/Catholic Central) added eight rebounds with seven points for the Gators.
Skidmore got 14 points from Kinsey, while Leonard hauled down 10 rebounds including seven defensive boards.
