Gators Win 10-4 at RPI
TROY, N.Y. – Russell Sage College Softball jumped out to a 6-0 lead to take the first game of Thursday's doubleheader at RPI by a score of 10-4.
TROY, N.Y. – Russell Sage College Softball jumped out to a 6-0 lead to take the first game of Thursday's doubleheader at RPI by a score of 10-4. Darkness caused the second game to be suspended with RPI ahead 8-2 with no outs and the bases empty in the top of the third inning.
Junior designated player Annalise Tyler (Schenectady, NY/Schalmont), announced as the Empire 8 Conference Player of the Week on Monday, led the Gators in the road victory. She went 3-for-5 with three runs scored and three RBI.
Senior catcher Emma Heartquist (Stuyvesant, NY/Ichabod Crane) added three hits and an RBI, while junior infielder Allison Kenyon (Mechanicville, NY/Mechanicville) and junior outfielder Bella Julian (Cicero, NY/Cicero North-Syracuse) each tallied two hits and a run scored.
The Gators started quickly in the opener, scoring four runs in the top of the first and adding an additional marker in the second and third frames. After the Engineers trimmed their deficit to two, 6-4, through five, RSC responded with a four-run sixth. Tyler, currently hitting .484 in the early going, cleared the bases with a three-run triple to highlight the rally.
Senior Sydney Speanburg paced RPI (6-5) on the afternoon. The outfielder went 3-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI in the setback. She had two hits and scored twice to help the Engineers build an early lead in the nightcap
RSC (5-4) is scheduled to be back in action on Saturday, March 28 vs. SUNY Poly.
