Strong Pitching Continues For RSC as they Split Doubleheader on Tuesday
Russell Sage College softball split a doubleheader for the second straight day, falling in the opener to Washington & Jefferson before taking down Dean in game two.
KISSIMMEE, Fla. – Russell Sage College softball split a doubleheader for the second straight day, falling in the opener to Washington & Jefferson before taking down Dean in game two.
The Gators (2-2) battled with the President's in game one, with three lead changes throughout the seven-inning contest.
The game was tied at three after six innings, before Washington and Jefferson scratched a run across in the top of the seventh from an RBI single and held the Gators in the bottom half to pull off the 4-3 victory.
Juniors Annalise Tyler (Schenectady, NY/Schalmont) and Bella Julian (Cicero, NY/Cicero North-Syracuse) each registered a pair of hits in the opener. Julian, junior Katie Call (Antwerp, NY/Indian River/Jefferson County CC), and senior Amber Banas (Saugerties, NY/Saugerties) all knocked in a run.
Annabella Putnam (Prattsburgh, NY/Prattsburgh/Mansfield), a graduate student, went 4.2 innings and only surrendered one earned run while striking out three on the mound.
In game two, another Gator tossed a complete game, as sophomore Alina Ferguson (New Windsor, NY/Newburgh Free Academy) joined the pitching fun, punching out eight Bulldogs on the way to a 4-1 victory over Dean.
Julian and senior Ciana Santana (East Meadow, NY/East Meadow) each contributed a pair of hits and a RBI in the nightcap, while senior Emma Heartquist (Stuyvesant, NY/Ichabod Crane) had three hits and drove in a run.
RSC enjoys an off-day tomorrow before a Thursday doubleheader against Dean and Loras.
