Putnam Twirls Gem in Gators First Win
Russell Sage College softball opened their spring break trip in Florida on Monday with a doubleheader against Penn State Berks and Western New England.

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – Russell Sage College softball opened their spring break trip in Florida on Monday with a doubleheader against Penn State Berks and Western New England.
In the opener, Annabella Putnam (Prattsburgh, NY/Prattsburgh/Mansfield), a graduate student, stole the show as she punched out ten Nittany Lions in her first start as a Gator in the 3-1 victory over Penn State Berks (1-3).
Junior infielder Annalise Tyler (Schenectady, NY/Schalmont) tallied a trio of hits and scored two of RSC's three runs. Senior Emma Heartquist (Stuyvesant, NY/Ichabod Crane) drove in a pair of runs on a hit while junior Katie Call (Antwerp, NY/Indian River/Jefferson County CC) drove in the Gators third run with a single.
Game two against Western New England was a battle, as the Golden Bears got out to a 4-0 lead after three innings. RSC battled back with a pair of two spots to tie it in the fourth and fifth innings, before WNE (3-1) brought one across in the sixth to pick up their third win on the season.
Tyler added another hit and scored a run, while senior Amber Banas (Saugerties, NY/Saugerties) and sophomore Annie Reilly (Westfield, NJ/Westfield) each had a pair of hits. Reilly drove in two runs while Banas brought in one. Call ripped her second RBI single of the day in the nightcap.
The Gators (1-1) continue play in Florida on Tuesday as they play Washington & Jefferson and Dean.
