Sage women take third at Elms Trailblazer Invitational
Chicopee, MA–Sage's men's and women's cross country teams were both in action on Saturday at the Elms College Trailblazer Invitational. The University of New England (UNE) women's team earned first place honors in the women's 5-kilometer race, while Babson College earned top team honors in the men's 8-kilometer race at Saturday afternoon's Blazers cross country invitational at Chicopee Memorial State Park.
Sage's women's team finished with an impressive third place finish in the race held at Chicopee Memorial State Park out of a field of 13 teams, while the Gator men picked up a fourth place showing of the nine complete teams.
For the women, UNE finished in first place with 28 points, followed by Gordon (55), Sage (100), Babson (153), MCLA (174), Curry College (191), Eastern Nazarene (193), Elms (193), Mass. Maritime (201), Mount Ida (230), Bay Path College (282), Newbury College (302) and University of St. Joseph (Conn.) (359).
Babson's Marina Capalbo won individual honors with a top time of 19:53 in the women's 5K race, followed by UNE's Michaela Moran, Babson's Kelli Halligan, and Colleen Ahern and Lindsay Forrette, both from UNE to round out the top five finishers.
Leading the way for the Gators was rookie Kiera Warner (Chestertown, NY/North Warren) as she finished in 13th place in 21:49. Next in 14th place was rookie Alaina Krueger (Selkirk, NY/Ravena Coeymans Selkirk) in a time of 21:51.
Sage's senior captain Katie Fargnoli (West Islip, NY/West Islip) posted a time of 22:03 to take 16th place, while freshman Amanda Millington (Chestertown, NY/North Warren) picked up 24th in 22:53.
Rookie Megan Lugo (West Nyack, NY/Clarkstown South) picked up 33rd place in 24:20, while freshman Leanne Egan (Schenectady, NY/Mohonasen) took home 47th in 26:10. Junior Chelsea Weber (Wyantskill, NY/Tamarac) finished in 27:51 and picked up 59th place.
Sage will be back in action on September 29 competing at the Cazenovia College Invitational.
